Genevieve Ann Leyn

Our beloved mother, Genevieve Ann Leyn, passed away suddenly on August 18, 2023. She was 89 years old. Less than a month away from turning 90. Genevieve is survived by her children, Judy, Carolyn (son-in-law, Dan), Brian (daughter-in-law, Deanna), eight grandchildren, Meghan, Anthony, Michael, Danielle, Annalise, Madison, Tanner, Hailey, two great-granddaughters Ella (6 yrs. old) and Scarlett (3 mos. old), sister-in-law Ann, several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Genevieve was born to John and Anna Gorski in Lowell, Massachusetts, on September 14, 1933. Genevieve was the youngest of 7 children (Mary, Helen, Emily, Ted, Henry, and Stanley) and the last living relative in her family until her passing.

At the age of twelve, Genevieve attended prep school. After prep school, Genevieve entered the convent and became a nun. In 1954, Genevieve completed her work at the convent and returned home. In 1959, Genevieve moved to Southern California, where she taught school in Covina and Long Beach. In 1963, Genevieve settled into her home in Lakewood. Over the years, Genevieve worked for several doctors and hospitals as a Medical Records Transcriber until she retired in 2008. Genevieve, a devout Catholic, joined St. Maria Goretti parish in the early 1960's.

Her devotion and volunteer work for the Catholic Church never wavered, even until the end. Genevieve loved her family, especially her grandkids and great-grandkids. She enjoyed watching the progression of her grandkids as they grew up and seeing their achievements in school or sports. Genevieve will be missed sorely by her family, friends, and neighbors.

A viewing will be on Friday, September 15, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. to 8 p.m., and a Rosary at 6:30 p.m. at Dilday Mortuary 5161 E. Arbor Rd., Long Beach, California. Funeral Mass will be on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Maria Goretti's Church, 3954 Palo Verde Av., Long Beach, California.
