Galen Dean Viereck

Born: Friday, February 16, 1962.

Our beloved, Dean Viereck, 63, of Long Beach, California passed unexpectedly on Monday, July 7, 2025. His presence will be deeply missed.

He was born in Davison County, South Dakota to LaVerna Gruenig and Roger Viereck. He lived in Libby, Montana, and Tropic, Utah as a young boy. As a young man, his family moved to Evanston, Wyoming during the 1980’s oil boom where he would graduate high school and worked for the county. This would be the start of Dean’s lifelong career in public service of others. In the late 1980s he moved to Long Beach and began working in a professional career for various public and private agencies in Southern California.

Dean is survived by his loving partner, Jesus and his previous longtime partner Ruben. He is also survived by his siblings: Lynda, Layne, John, and Susan and their spouses, and his nieces and nephews Tony, Mitchell, Diedra, Micky (Andrew), Shelby, Megan, Gage, Dusty, Alisha, Jesse, Samantha. He is preceded by his beloved mother, LaVerna, who passed in late 2024 after a short battle with cancer.

He touched the hearts of people who knew him, and we will forever remember his wry smile and his helpful, kind and fun-loving nature. He was a jewel of a man and Dean showed us daily how to be present in the service of others. He lived life fully and was a gregarious travel companion and was always ready for a new experience or adventure. His compassion for those around him was obvious and he wore his emotions on his sleeve for others in their time of need. You could count on him, through good times and bad, and it was easy to know where you stood with Dean. He will be in our hearts forever and always. We love you and miss you. Rest in peace, our sweet Dean.
