On January 29, 1941 on a tiny mid-Atlantic archipelago known as the Azores, Francisco Jose Soares was born to Maria Amelia and Joao da Rosa Soares in the city of Horta, island of Faial.
He left the island to come to America. He fought in Vietnam War and the Dominican Civil War. He was shot twice in the line of duty. He loved this country dearly and liked to tell people, “I’m a citizen by choice, not by chance”.
Frank worked for Pan Am from 1967 until the end of Pam Am. He once spent 3 days de-icing in the great blizzard that stopped subways. He then worked at LAX in the sweltering heat and cold. Choosing to endure the traffic for his children to attend the best schools.
He wasn’t a rich man, but our family always felt we were. We traveled around the world, with his own hands he constructed an addition to the house, helped people and we will all miss him.
He is survived by his wife Maria, daughter Rosemary, son Frank and grandson Joseph.
