Sister, Aunt, Daughter and Friend

Fran was born in Amboy, Illinois on March 23rd 1929. She grew up on the family farm and was the 2nd youngest of 9 children born to George H and Edna Elizabeth (Anderson) Welty. Following high school she moved to Michigan, living with her oldest sister, Jeanette, while she attended business school. In January of 1949 she followed her sisters, Helen and Liz, out to Long Beach, CA where she resided until her passing on July 12th 2021 at the age of 92.

As a young girl she loved to sit on the floor next to her dad's chair in the evenings as he taught her to "play the horses". And on weekends they would listen to the horse races together on the family radio.

Fran was the "link" in our large, extended Welty family - between the west coast relatives and those in Illinois and the rest of the country - keeping in touch with as many people as she could. Her condo and refrigerator door were filled with pictures of relatives and friends.

Fran was employed for many years by the Sol H Deeble Insurance Agency until Sol's death and than by the Hamman-Miller-Beauchamp-Deeble Inc agency where she worked until her retirement in September 1991. She was a member of the SCOTS (single Catholics over twenty three) Club until it's demise and also belonged to the Insurance Women of Long Beach joining this National Association in 1961. She moved to the Redondo Plaza in Long Beach in 1976 where she served several times on their Board.

She is survived by her sister, Elizabeth (Welty) Kier, nieces Bridget and Erin Maguire, who were a wonderful source of comfort and assistance to her in the past few months, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, siblings George, Bill, Jeanette (Rumery), Don, Charles, Helen (Maguire), and baby brother Francis have all passed.

A memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, Aug 5th 2021, 11:00 am, at St. Matthew's Catholic Church, 672 Temple Ave, Long Beach, CA; Celebration of Life to follow 12 noon - 4:00 pm, at Recreation Park 18 Golf Course Clubhouse, 5001 Deukmejuan Drive, Long Beach.

Fran's favorite flowers were yellow roses but in place of those she would have loved having you make donations to the American Cancer Society, Musical Theater West (  https://musical.org/donate-now/  ), or the charity of your choice.

We will miss you Fran. You were an inspiration to us all. So happy you were a part of our lives.
