Frances Magdaleno was called home to heaven on the evening of January 17th, 2024. She was the second of seven children born to Henry and Martina “Marty” Campas on February 23, 1938 in San Gabriel. At the age of eighteen she was introduced to Thomas Magdaleno, who would become her adoring husband of over 66 years and the father of their six children. They shared a love of travel, cooking, and spending quality time with their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Frances was a beloved maternal figurehead in her own immediate family, extended family, as well as to many cherished friends. She loved to support her grandchildren in all of their extracurricular endeavors be it plays, musicals, choir concerts, band performances, sporting events or dance recitals.

She was a hardworking woman her whole life. When she was just 16 she left school in order to help out at home. She went on to work at The Forum Cafeteria in Los Angeles, then as a dry cleaner, eventually leading her to Sears where she worked within the display department. After several years, she decided to step away from working a 9-5 and instead turned her attention to being a stay at home mother to her growing family. After around 10 years of staying at home with her six kids, she felt ready to return to the workforce and got a job packing vegetables at Marshburn Farms during the nightshift where she was quickly promoted to a supervisory role. During this time, she also chose to go back to school and complete her education by getting her GED. When her children were all in school, she then decided to move to a more corporate environment and started her career with the LA County Child & Family Support department as a case worker, and after many promotions she eventually became the liaison to the District Attorney. After over 30 years of being a civil servant, she retired but quickly grew restless and found herself a part-time position as a tax preparer for H&R Block. At the age of 81 she was finally ready to hang it up and just be “Granny Franny” full time to her sixteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Frances was proceeded in death by her parents Henry and Martina Campas, brother Henry Jr., sisters Ruth, Patty, Rita, and Jeannie. She is survived by her loving husband Thomas Magdaleno Sr., her youngest brother Gene Campas, her six children Tom Jr. (Chris), Karen (Patrick D.), Julie (Mike) , Jim (Sandy), Cathy (Patrick F.), and Christi, her sixteen grandchildren Jason, Jeffrey (Caitlyn), Lauren (Jordan), Lindsay (Michael), Brent, Satchel (Ariana), P.J., Mary, Dylan, Isabel, Shealyn, Joshua, Kelly, Trevor, Renee, and Kevin, and her four great grandchildren Presley, Braxton, Braddock, and Dempsey.

Anyone who knew and loved Frances is welcome to join us in celebrating her life and memory.
