Frances Catherine Culton

Frances "Fran" Culton, 87 of Long Beach, California, passed away on October 30, 2014, with her loving family and friends by her side.
The funeral service will be held at 10:00am on Thursday, November 6, 2014 at St. Cyprian's Catholic Church in Long Beach. Viewing will be held from 4:00 - 7:00pm on Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at Luyben Dilday Mortuary with Rosary to follow at 7:00 pm.
Fran was born in Cargill, Ontario Canada, on November 14, 1926. She held a number of interesting jobs in her youth including switch board operator for her town. She attended Beauty College and opened her own shop in Grand Bend Ontario where she met Tom Culton. They were married in 1954 and moved to California in 1963 with their two young children, Terry and Dale. While raising her sons, she received her Associate's degree at Long Beach City College and her Bachelor's degree from Pacific Oaks College.
Fran was a Teacher for the Long Beach Unified School District and worked at Whittier, Mark Twain and Barton Child Development Centers. She was a beloved member of St. Cyprian's Parish and was an active volunteer, including serving in the gift shop, feeding the homeless and was instrumental in establishing the parish bereavement group. She enjoyed spending time with her family, was an avid reader and participated in the Violet Roses Red Hat Society.
She is survived by her two sons; Terry (Kathleen), and Dale (Ann, Nikolas & Cameron); grandchildren Dylan and Aidan. She is survived by her brothers: Gord & Bob and her sisters: Betty, Norma, Charlene, & Dianne
Fran is preceded in death by her husband, Tom and siblings Gerry, Pat and Maureen.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to St. Jude's Children's Hospital. The family of Fran wishes to thank the 7th floor ICU staff of Long Beach Memorial Medical Center for their loving care. Thank you to Fran's friends, family and neighbors who shared in her life. She truly cherished all of you.
