Edward G. Fremgen, born in Chicago, Illinois on October 7, 1926, to John and Jessie Fremgen, passed away peacefully after a short fight with cancer, on November 5, 2017.
Dad served in the Army during WWII; taught at High Schools in Illinois and California; worked at Sunbeam Corporation, where he met mom; and many Electronic and Aircraft Companies.
He married Ruth Kennedy on May 30, 1953, in Chicago, Illinois. Together they moved to Southern California where they raised their family.
He was very involved at St. Cyprian’s Church in the Parish Council, Holy Name Society and Knights of Columbus. He was very active with his three sons in the Boy Scouts and The Tribe of Tahquitz. After Ruth’s passing in 1977, he attended St. John’s Seminary of Theology and received Holy Orders on January 4,1992. He served at and was affiliated with many churches in Long Beach and the surrounding cities where he met many wonderful people who he cherished as friends.
For the last, almost five years, he enjoyed living at the Grove Senior Living facility and meeting and associating with lots of new friends and running into many old friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, four siblings; his wife, Ruth, niece and nephews. He is survived by two brothers; his children Eileen (Joe), Mark (Lily), Alan (Kathy), Scott (Jamie); his (7) grandchildren, (3) great grandchildren, and a very large extended family, who will all miss him.
Funeral mass will be held on Friday, November 17, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Cyprian’s Church, 4714 Clark Ave., Long Beach, California.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the American Diabetes Association, the American Cancer Society or The Tribe of Tahquitz Camp Development Fund.
