Fannudin Soegeng, 76, departed this life on Sunday, September 23, 2018 at his home in Lakewood, California. He was born on April 25, 1942 in Surabaya, Indonesia to father Chang Chen Che and mother Shia Ie Hwa, who boarded a ship from China to Indonesia in 1930s in search of a better life. He was a hardworking yet honest businessman, an intuitive yet grounded entrepreneur, a crafty handyman yet practical wordsmith, intelligent yet humble, pragmatic yet caring, sensible yet generous, a Western thinker yet Chinese rooted. He fell madly in love with and married a beautiful star of his High School basketball team, and is survived by his wife Sylvia Hartono.
Fannudin and Sylvia's union spanned for 53 years, during which they boarded a plane from Indonesia to Los Angeles in 1980s in search of an even better life, and was blessed with one son Ron, one daughter Jemy, married to Raymond Sutanto; and five grandchildren: Kristen, married to Paul Vargas, Ryan, Jasper, Melody and Lea. He is also survived by two brothers: Chang Ai Ren, China, and Chang Sin Ren, Indonesia; and two sisters Chang Jiu Ho and Chang Fei Fei, both Indonesia. He was preceded in death by his parents and four sisters.
