Died at Long Beach Community Hospital, Long Beach, Calif. March 16,2017
Gene is survived by his sister Janice Ellis, and niece Teresa Ellis, both of Huntington Beach, California; step-daughter, Lois Overcast, of Little Rock, Arkansas, and 6 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. He was proceed in death by his wife, Jo B. Sauer, his parents, Elsie and Frank Sauer, and his brother, Neil C. Sauer, all of Long Beach. California. He was a founding member of the Tres Rios Power Squardron and a member of the Southern California Ford Galaxy Club. Gene was a life-long member of the Cross Wood U.C.C. formally the Woodruff Community United Church of Christ where he has served on the Board of Trustees for the past 30 years. He enlisted in the army on October 4, 1946, and was medically discharged on February 19, 1948. Services for Gene Sauer will be held at the Cross Wood United Church of Christ, 3908 Woodruff Avenue, Long Beach, Ca., on Saturday, April 1, 2017, at 10:00 AM. In Lieu of flowers, it is suggested that donations be made to the American Cancer Society or the Long Beach Humane Society.
