It is with heavy hearts and so much love that we share the passing of Estella Martinez, a remarkable woman whose life was defined by service, creativity, loyalty, and an extraordinary love for the people and animals around her.

Estella dedicated much of her career to protecting and serving her community. She retired from the Long Beach Police Department after twenty-nine years of distinguished service as a Detective. One of the most respected in the Department. Her career reflected her unwavering dedication to public service and her commitment to making a difference others' lives.

Following her distinguished career in law enforcement, Estella continued to put her experience and expertise into her next chapter as the owner of a successful private investigation agency specializing in risk management. Her entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to her profession were a testament to her determination and drive.

Estella’s stellar career was but one facet of her extraordinary life. She was an accomplished painter, pianist, a devoted animal lover, and a gifted storyteller. She loved boating with Lucy and - anytime she could - go fishing. Estella had a green thumb and took great joy tending to her plants and welcoming a bevy of birds to her feeders. Her beloved dogs Jock-a-Mo, Birdie, and cat Poppa captured her heart. It was her mission in life to spoil them as only an indulgent mother could. Mission accomplished.

Perhaps one of Estella’s greatest accomplishments—and the one she treasured most—was being a fiercely loyal and devoted partner and friend. When you became Estella’s friend, you were a friend for life. There was no favor too big or too small, and no distance too far to travel, when someone she loved needed her. She was usually the first in line to help, offering her time, her strength, her generosity, and, when needed, her legendary sense of humor. She was someone who showed up—whether for a friend, a stranger, or anyone - who needed a helping hand.

Estella had an infectious energy that filled any gathering whether big or small and unquestionably left a lasting impression. Few people could captivate a room in telling a story the way should could. She had a way of making people laugh, bringing people together, and turning an ordinary moment memorable. Her presence filled a room, and her absence will be deeply felt by all who knew and loved her.

Estella was predeceased by her mother Maria Martinez. She is survived by her loving partner, Lucy Monteiro; her father, Charlie Martinez; and her siblings, Vee Martinez, Dolores Herrera and her husband, Leo Herrera, Carlos Martinez, and Arturo Corrales as well as her beloved pets, Johnnie Northbound (Poppa), Birdie, and Jock-a-Mo. She also leaves behind countless friends, colleagues, neighbors, and community members who were fortunate enough to know and call her a friend.

Estella spent her life protecting, serving, loving, and giving. She made a difference in more lives than she probably ever realized, her legacy will live on in the people she helped, the friendships she cherished, and the many stories that will continue to be told about her.

While Estella lived in Long Beach, California, she maintained a lifelong love affair with New Orleans. She embraced everything the city had to offer, its music, food, festivals, friendships, fishing and of course, the New Orleans Saints – Who Dat! Sharing that passion with others, she became an unofficial ambassador for New Orleans, introducing many California friends to the culture and community that meant so much to her. Through her, the distance between Long Beach and New Orleans seemed much smaller.
