Elton Dwaine Elberling was born on November 27, 1931 in Sauk Centre, Minnesota to Roy and Ellen Elberling. Elton was the eldest of 5 children; two brothers, LeRoy and James; and two sisters, Marlys and Gladys.

He was raised in Duluth, Minnesota and graduated from Denfeld High School June,1950.

Elton joined the U.S. Navy in October, 1950 and served during the Korean War on the USS Badoeng Strait as an electrician. He was honorably discharged in August, 1954.

While he was in the Navy, he met his future wife, Lorraine. They were married in May, 1952 in San Diego, California. While he was stationed in Tacoma, Washington they had their first daughter, Juanita, in February, 1954. After he was discharged from the Navy, they lived in Duluth, Minnesota and had their son, Dwaine, in February, 1958. In 1960, the family moved to Long Beach, California. This is where they had their second daughter, Leilani, in October, 1961. Elton and Lorraine were married for 49 years when Lorraine suddenly passed away in 2001.

Elton worked several jobs, including mail carrier for the post office. In 1965, he started his own building maintenance company and worked until he retired in 2011 at the age of 80.

Elton is survived by his daughters, Juanita and Leilani; and his son, Dwaine. His grandchildren, Renee, Andrew, Anthony, Jeremiah, Charity, and Amber; and his great-grandchildren, Isabelle, Adam, Madeline, Liam, Guillermo and Cleo; his brothers, LeRoy and James, and his sister, Gladys. His sister, Marlys, predeceased him.

A military service will be held at Riverside National Cemetery on Thursday, March 16, 2023 at 11:00 a.m.
