Elizabeth “Betty” KasheBetty was born into a farming family in Lidgerwood, North Dakota on May 9th, 1926. Her father Anton was a farmer while her mother Esther unfortunately died when Betty was six. Betty spent her youth in the Lidgerwood area until attending St. John’s College of Nursing in Fargo, where she graduated in 1948.Soon after finishing nursing school Betty moved to California and while working as a nurse at the VA Hospital in Long Beach she met William Owen. They married in 1950 and eventually settled in Lakewood. They had four children together but William died in 1960 from heart problems, leaving Betty with the children to raise.In 1963 Betty married William Kashe. Betty and Bill had one child of their own and were married for 48 years. During this time, Betty worked as a nurse at hospitals in Long Beach, Lakewood and Paramount and eventually retired in 1990.Betty loved her family dearly and spent many hours attending her grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s many sports games. She was particularly fond of baseball. Betty was a long-time St. Pancratius parishioner and was involved in many church activities over the years. She also thoroughly enjoyed her bunco groups and the occasional trip to Las Vegas and local casinos.Betty was preceded in death by her first husband William Owen, second husband William Kashe, grandson Daniel; son-in-law Roger; and brother Robert. She is survived by children Maricia Likins, Jan (Mike) Dietrick, Becky (Sam) Assed, Mark (Mary) Owen, and Emy (Todd) DeAngelis; by siblings Helen Hankey, Maryanne Haas, Norma Honl and John Gaukler; grandchildren Matt (Jenn), Jason (Carinna), Nick (Jocelyn), Sarah, Chris (Jenn), Tim, Jennifer, Rachel and Zac; step-grandchildren Geno and Jack; and great-grandchildren Nicolas, Andrew, Austin, Aiden, Brooke, Logan, TJ, Ellie and Ava.Her memorial service will be held at St. Pancratius Church at 3519 St. Pancratius Place, Lakewood, CA 90712 on Thursday, December 22, 2016 at 10 am.
