Eleanor Theresa Mathieson

Born Eleanor T. Mannico in Worcester Massachusetts as the daughter of Owen J. Mannico and Sara M. Doherty.

As a graduate of Worcester St. University she pursued a career as a middle school teacher in both Massachusetts and beginning in 1962/63 Long Beach Unified School district where she taught social studies, history and English at Stanford, Hoover and Jefferson middle schools for nearly 30 years. She also attained a masters degree in education from Laverne University and later in her career became an ESL teacher to educate Long Beach’s increasing diversity.

Eleanor was an avid sports fan with a deep appreciation of music, gardening and seafood celebrating every birthday for nearly 40 years at Captain Jacks in Sunset Beach. As an animal lover with strong humanitarian values she was a lifelong donor to ASPCA and St. Jude’s children’s hospital.

She is survived by her son. David Owen Mathieson
