Edward Theodoro Lopez, formerly of Springer, New Mexico passed away on Thursday, January 31, 2018 in Lakewood, California at the age of 87 surrounded by his loving family.

Eddie was born to Pedro and Endelesia Lopez in Sweetwater, near Springer, New Mexico. He grew up the youngest of seven children. Eddie grew up learning the benefit of hard work and became a tradesmen in carpentry and mechanics. He married his lifelong love, Theresa Lopez in 1954. In 1957, the couple moved their growing family to California, where they raised their family of seven children. Eddie was able to fit in his life’s passion which was playing golf while working and raising a family.

Eddie worked very hard at providing for his family in Southern California. He worked at American Electronics, Global Van Lines and Disneyland while also operating his own janitorial company. Eddie and Theresa moved their family to Roseville, near Sacramento in 1979. He became the Maintenance Supervisor at Sierra College in Rocklin. He suffered a stroke and aneurysm in 1983. He recovered, miraculously, but to an early retirement. Eddie and Theresa both retired to Prescott Valley, Arizona in 1990. They built their dream home there. They lived there until 2000 when they moved to San Jacinto in Riverside County to be closer to their family. Theresa and Eddie moved to Lakewood in 2015 to live with Cristina’s family due to Theresa’s ill health. His wife passed away in 2016 after 61 years of marriage.

Eddie was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, good friend and family man. He was gracious and outgoing with a great wit, and always had a funny story and good joke to tell. He loved sports, playing golf and his family.

Eddie is survived by his 7 children, Cristina (Frank), Ed Jr. (Eileen), Jani (Murray), Marian, Alberta (Julio), Patricia (Barry), Juanita, 13 Grandchildren, 3 Great Granddaughters, and Theresa’s brother, Mike Lopez. He is preceded in death by his parents and six siblings.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Pancratius Catholic Church, 3519 St. Pancratius Place in Lakewood, California on February 16th at 10:00 am. His ashes will be interred in Springer, New Mexico later in the year.

Eddie expressed that he would prefer donations in lieu of flowers. His suggested charities are Pathways Volunteer Hospice at www.pathwayshospice.org or St. Pancratius Catholic Church where he volunteered until his passing. Their address is 3519 St. Pancratius Place, Lakewood, California, 90712.
