Edward Charles Derrico November 11, 1963 – February 23, 2025

Edward Charles Derrico was born on November 11, 1963, in Teaneck, New Jersey, to Marilyn Meola and James Derrico. From a young age, he had a passion for running and a natural competitive spirit, setting records as an athlete—some of which still stand today. His talent earned him scholarship offers from colleges across the country, leading him to Texas A&M, where he became a proud Aggie.

In 1985, Edward began dating the love of his life, Alexis. They married in the winter of 1990 and soon after moved to California to build a life together. He pursued a successful career in the oil industry and later founded MVP Energy, LLC, and MVP Products, LLC. His strong work ethic and determination helped him thrive. More than anything, though, he was devoted to his family. He and Alexis raised three children—Erica, Amanda, and Edward—who remained the center of his world.

Edward was an engaged and loving father, always present for his children. Whether coaching their sports teams or cheering them on from the sidelines, he never missed a chance to support them. He was also a man who embraced life fully, enjoying travel, great meals, and good books. In his free time, he could often be found running, cycling, playing golf, bowling or simply enjoying moments with family and friends. Later in life, he took great joy in being a grandfather, or “Papou,” sharing laughter and making cherished memories with his grandchildren.

On February 23, 2025, Edward passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Alexis; his children, Erica Callahan (Colin), Amanda Derrico, and Edward Derrico (Sidney); his grandchildren, Kieran, Teagan, and Theo; his mother, Marilyn Mazzarulli; his brother, James Derrico; his stepbrother, Paul Mazzarulli; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, James Derrico; his brother, Richard Derrico; and his stepfather, Pasquale Mazzarulli.

Edward will be remembered for his kindness, warmth, and unwavering loyalty. His love for his family and friends was evident in everything he did, and his infectious laugh brought joy to those around him. He had a competitive streak, especially when it came to his beloved New York sports teams, but at his core, he was a man of deep love and generosity.

His presence will be deeply missed, but the love, strength, and memories he shared will live on.

A memorial service will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at St. Joseph’s Church in Long Beach (6180 E Willow St, Long Beach, CA 90815), followed by a Celebration of Life. Edward’s final resting place will be at Pacific View Cemetery in Corona Del Mar.
