Edward Alan Ahrens, known affectionately as Ed, passed away peacefully at home in Lakewood, California, on August 14, 2025, at the age of 79. Born on May 6, 1946, in Culver City, California, Ed lived a life characterized by quiet strength, dedicated service to his family, and an unwavering commitment to helping others.
Ed had a fulfilling career that began in the oil field, where he worked climbing the tall derricks, a task that called for both courage and precision. Later, he became the manager of a transmission parts house, a position he held until he retired in 2019. His work ethic and managerial capabilities earned him the respect of colleagues and customers alike.
Family was paramount in Ed's life. He deeply loved his children, Eddie (Carrianne), Sara, and Marc (Lisa), and took great pride in participating in their lives. He cherished attending their sports activities, finding joy in coaching baseball, softball, and soccer, as well as refereeing soccer games. His dedication continued well into his later years, as he made it a point to attend games for his great grandsons, Kenny and Sonny, in the last few months of his life.
Ed was a man of few words, but when he spoke, he shared wisdom and kindness that resonated with those who knew him. He was known to lend a hand to anyone in need, often helping neighbors with tasks and challenges, embodying the spirit of generosity.
Throughout his younger years, Ed had a great passion for the outdoors, engaging in hunting and camping adventures. As his family grew, his love for the outdoors transformed into cherished camping and fishing trips. Additionally, he enjoyed taking his boys to the desert, where they would shoot targets together. One of his proudest accomplishments included hiking to the top of Half Dome multiple times, embracing the beauty of nature that he so loved.
Ed's last years were marked by a courageous battle with Alzheimer's Disease, and he was recently diagnosed with congestive heart failure. Despite his health challenges, he faced life with grace until the end, passing away peacefully in his sleep.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Marsha Ahrens, his children, Eddie (Carrianne), Sara, and Marc (Lisa), along with his grandchildren Taylor (Lisa), Cody, Chelsey, Dustin, and Evan. He is also survived by his sister Irene Templin and her four children and their families, who held a special place in his heart.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence Edward Ahrens and Stella Leonida Burton, and his brother, William Ahrens.
A memorial service to honor Ed's life will be held on October 18, 2025, at Los Altos Grace Brethren Church in Long Beach, California. He will be remembered for his quiet strength, his generous spirit, and the love he unfailingly showed to his family and friends. Ed leaves behind a legacy of caring and kindness that will resonate in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know him.
