Edgar Lee Hayes

Edgar will be fondly remembered by his extensive family for being a generous provider, a loving husband, wonderful father, and caring grandfather and elder.

Edgar was born on October 29, 1932 in Kentucky. On that day a beautiful brown-eyed baby boy was born to Irene and Sydney Hayes. He and his siblings, Mary Ann, Judy, Jamie, Suzy, and Roger completed the family. He joined the Armed Service and spent time overseas. While in the military, he was known for his boxing skills and being quite the ladies man. Upon returning to the states, he made his way to Southern California and started his family with Gloria Hayes and had the first six of his children, Denise, Debra, Edgar Jr., Gregory, Susan, and Kent. He expanded his family with Loretta Peer to include David. He then expanded his family further with Glenda Hayes to include Sarah, Samuella, Carl, Carolyn, Michael, Mathew, Andrew, and Allison. In his time in Southern California he began his entrepreneurial journey launching a number of different business ventures over the course of time, including movie theaters, retail, food service, and video rentals. These ventures were mostly successful, but through good times and bad, he never lost his love for life. These successes gave him the freedom to enjoy time with his growing family. He lived his life fully and spent his free time enjoying his passions, like watching boxing matches and football games, or partaking in a few wagers at the local horse racing tracks with his family, usually having a kid or two right by his side, passing his love of life on to his children. He had seen and experienced so much throughout his long and joyous life, watching his children grow and praising their many achievements. He often spoke with joyous pride for all of his children.

His beautiful soul and loving hugs will be missed dearly and his life will be forever cherished in the lives of his loving children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren. The world has lost another living angel and all of his family has gained a guardian angel with his passing on July 3, 2025.

Though Edgar is no longer with us, his spirit will live on.

He is survived by a vast family including 15 children, Denise Hayes, Debra Hayes, Edgar Hayes Jr., Gregory Hayes, Susan Thrower, Kent Hayes, David Hayes, Sarah White, Samuella Mcmahon, Carl Hopper, Carolyn Hopper, Michael Hopper, Mathew Hopper, Andrew Hopper, and Allison Hopper. He is also survived by numerous generations of grandchildren.
