Raymundo Oscar Garza December 29, 1947 - May 31, 2015 Raymundo "Ray" Garza, O.D., age 67, passed away in Long Beach, California. Devoted husband, son, brother, uncle, cousin, stepfather, and friend, Ray was greatly loved by the many lives he touched. He was often called "Mighty" as a young boy, and as a young man "little Ray" even though he was 6'4 in height. As he entered the senior years he was often referred to as the "gentle giant". Ray is predeceased by his parents Raymundo and Beatrice Garza, sister Patty, brother Fernie, and first wife Rose. He is survived by his wife, Eluvina Garza Carlon, sister, Lydia Smith, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, stepchildren and step-grandchildren. He also leaves his beloved pets, Shiloh, Pooh-Bear, Waldo, Pluto, Cleo and Sneezy.yes; he loved his dogs and cats. He was born in Los Angeles where he attended Montebello High School Oilers where he played football as Right Tackle, followed by an Associate in Arts degree from East Los Angeles Junior College January 21, 1976, and then later graduated from the University of California Berkley June 19, 1982 with a degree of Doctor of Optometry. He later opened his practice in Southern California. Family and friends were priority to him in all aspects of his life. Of the many beautiful character traits that Ray possessed, humility, integrity, steadfastness, loyalty, generosity, kindness and sense of humor best describe him. He had a wittiness that caused you to laugh uncontrollable. Golfing with his friends and family was one of the highlights for Ray. He also was an avid lover of Jazz, Las Vegas, classical music, and cultural events. He was a "class act". His memorial service will be as follows: Rosary, Thursday, June 11, 2015, commencing at 7:00 p.m. followed by mass on Friday, June 12, 2015 commencing at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Bartholomew Catholic Church, 5100 East Broadway, Long Beach, CA 90803. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to his favorite charities, City of Hope, ASPCA, St. Jude Children's Hospital, Public Radio, and Rescue Mission.
