Dorothy Elizabeth Hill

Dorothy Elizabeth Hill, 72, of Lakewood, California, passed away on December 3rd, 2023. She was born to parents Margaret and Harold Johnson, on May 7th, 1951 in Los Angeles, California. She grew up in Rolling Hills with her brother, Hal and sister, Marilyn.

After graduating from San Diego State, Dorothy began working as an Optical inspector at her families business, Harold Johnson Optical Lab. She retired from HJOL in 2015 after 43 years and dove right in to being a full time Me-maw to her 3 grandchildren.

Dorothy was married to Robert Hill for 27 years. She met Robert in 1982 while on vacation in Cancun. Robert took one look at Dorothy and told his friend that he was going to marry her one day and just like that they were married on January 21, 1984. They remained together until Robert’s passing in 2009. Together they raised twin daughters, Jessica and Megan.

Dorothy spent her free time being her daughter’s greatest cheerleaders. She could often be heard on the soccer field screaming on the sidelines. She was always the loudest and everyone loved her for that. She loved spending time with her family doing things like Sunday brunches or singing at the top of our lungs in the kitchen. No matter what you spent time doing with Dorothy it was always bound to be filled with so many laughs.

Dorothy was truly a one of a kind woman. She had the most infectious personality and had a way of making everyone she came in contact with feel like family. She was the best mother and an even better Me-maw to her grandchildren. She had a huge impact on so many people and she will be greatly missed.

Dorothy is survived by her sister, Marilyn, her brother, Hal, two daughters Jessica and Megan and 3 grandchildren, Beau, Brody and Claire.

The family has entrusted Luyben Dilday Mortuary with the arrangements. A funeral is scheduled for December 14, 2023 at Luyben Dilday Mortuary at 10  AM. The address for the mortuary is 5161 E. Arbor Rd. Long Beach, CA 90808.
