Dorothy Rasinski Gregory

Dr. Dorothy Rasinski Gregory, born April 11, 1928, Buffalo, NY. Died July 31, 2022, Long Beach, CA. Parents Julius Victor and Clara Rasinski, Graduate of Cornell University and Cornell Law School. Admitted to the New York Bar in 1951. Graduate of the University of Buffalo Medical School. One of the first women in the US to earn both Law and Medical degrees. Board certified in Internal Medicine, practiced in Fullerton, CA. Joined the Legal Medicine Division of the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology in Washington, DC. Director of Medical-Legal Affairs for the Department of Veterans Affairs at the Washington Central Office, as a liaison member of the President’s Commission for the Study of Ethical Problems in Medicine and Biomedical and Behavioral Research. Transferred to the Long Beach, CA, VA Medical Center, and served as Associate Chief of Staff for Education, Acting Chief of Staff, and member of the faculty at the University of California/Irvine School of Medicine. After retirement, joined the VA National Ethics Advisory Board and several hospital ethics committees in the Los Angeles area. Past President of the American College of Legal Medicine (the only woman to have held that office) and Board of Governors as Chair of several major Committees. Member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Legal Medicine. Board Certified in Legal Medicine. Member of the Board of Directors of the American Board of Legal Medicine and the ACLM foundation. Served on editorial boards of the Journal of Clinical Ethics and the Cambridge Quarterly of Healthcare Ethics. Predeceased by husband of 50 years James B Gregory, and daughter Linda Young Strong. Survived by brother Julius Rasinski (Ellen), granddaughter Michelle Young Long (Merrill), grandson Thomas Young (Heather), great-grandchildren Forrest and Eden Long, and Lily and Linda Young, and her beloved nieces and nephews.
