Humble beginnings in San Nicolas, Pangasinan, Philippines
Dorotea was the youngest daughter of 9 siblings of Juan and Agripina Fontanilla. She enjoyed teaching as an elementary school teacher in the Philippines until she married Alfonso O. Descargar in 1950. She became a US Navy career wife, mother of 4 children, Samson, Arlene, David & Daniel. Two beautiful daughter-in-laws, Andromeda & Rosalia that honored her a Grandmother of 3, Sabrina, John and Cecilia and Great-Grandmother of twin boys, Jaden Sam & Preston James Williams (Sabrina).
Dorotea was truly a survivor. She survived the 1941 Japanese occupation in the Philippines, a life threatening health problem in 1967 and a stroke in 2005. She was blessed with longevity genes from her Dad and Mom, 102 and 98 years old respectively. Mom was 91 years old when she received her angel wings.
She believed the importance of family and practiced daily that charity begins at home first. Advocated “Paying it Forward”, Random Acts of Kindness and planted seeds of hope to those seeking assistance. She was one remarkable, generous and virtuous lady. We have been blessed by her presence in our lives.
