Our mom, Doris Zalk, died peacefully on Monday, March 30 with family by her side. Born in Fresno, California on August 27, 1925, Doris and her family settled in Wilmington, California where Doris grew up, graduated from Banning High School and worked at a women's clothing store called My Ladies. It was during these years that Doris met Robert W. Zalk. They eventually married then purchased Tots to Teens children's clothing store, which they operated for 40 years.
Doris cherished her animals, quiet walks around the neighborhood and annual family vacations. Her sense of humor and ability to laugh at herself created plenty of happy times for her family of five.
To succumb to a disease that erases these incredible moments from Doris's memory seems inhumane. But the memories remain intact, carefully preserved in a part of her mind that was set free this week. Her memory is clear today. She is home. She is at peace. And she remembers.
Doris is survived by children Robert E. Zalk, Cathy Semar and Sharon Crowe, and six grandchildren. A viewing will be held on Wednesday, April 1 from 4-6 p.m. at Luyben Family Dilday-Mottell Mortuary in Long Beach. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, April 2 at 10 a.m. at Green Hills Memorial Park in Rancho Palos Verdes.
Arrangements under the direction of Luyben-Dilday Mortuary, Long Beach, CA.
