Devoted wife and mother, passed away at age 96 Sunday, October 29, 2017 at the home of her son Timothy, in Cypress, Ca.
Doris was born May 2, 1921 in Detroit, MI. Shortly thereafter, her family moved to Grass Lake, MI. As the eldest of six children, Doris faced many hardships and responsibilities throughout the Depression Years. During WWII, Doris worked at a factory supporting the production of the B-24 bomber being assembled at the Willow Run Plant. Through her simultaneous volunteer service at the local USO chapter, Doris met Sgt. Timothy L. Gaynor Jr. Upon completion of his meritorious service in Europe and the Philippines, Doris and Timothy were married October 31, 1946 at St. Mary's Church in Jackson, MI. They were married for 54 years until his death in 2001.
Doris worked several years at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital; and then for over 20 years as the secretary for St. Thomas the Apostle High School in Ann Arbor. Doris took great pride in her 70 year membership in the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and her 57 year membership in St. Thomas the Apostle Church Parrish.
Surviving besides her son Timothy L. Gaynor III, of Cypress, CA, are daughters Mary Gaynor and Kathleen (Gene) Draper, and son John Gaynor, all of Ann Arbor. Also surviving are granddaughters Jennifer (Robert) Draper-Jones, and Sister Sarah Marie Draper; great-grandson Aidan Jones, and namesake great-granddaughter Doris Draper-Jones.
