Doreen Rosemary Hooker

Doreen was born December 17, 1924 in New York City, New York and was baptized Doreen Rosemary Housego.

Her father, John, mother, Beatrice, and sister Marion died of T.B. in 1928, so at 4 years old Doreen was sent to Southampton, England by way of ship to live with her mother’s parents.

In 1939, when the war was declared, Doreen moved back to the U.S. to live with her Aunt Daisy and William Hall, who was Aunt Daisey’s husband.

Doreen was married to Raymond Estes in 1944 in a Catholic Church in Riverside, CA. Doreen and Raymond bought the house in Lakewood and moved in February 1953, but divorced in 1956 with Doreen keeping the house. Doreen re-married again in 1961 to John Koval, who was a Navy Chief Petty Officer, but divorced 10 years later.

Doreen then met Bob Hooker and fell in love and married in England in 1972 and also married in a Catholic Church in 1996. Doreen and Bob Hooker were married for 42 years when Bob passed away, April 20, 2014 on his birthday and Easter Sunday. Bob treated Doreen like a princess! They took about 15 trips to England to visit family and bought land in Smartsville and built their 2nd home.

Doreen worked for Boeing and retired at 50 years old. Doreen was very creative and talented and she crocheted and knitted scarves and blankets, made bracelets, necklaces and earrings out of beads, sewed, did calligraphy, and loved line dancing. Doreen also volunteered at the Precious Life thrift store in Los Alamitos, attended church at St. Cornelius Catholic Church in Long Beach.

Doreen Rosemary Hooker passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2019, while she was sleeping. Doreen was 94 years old.

We will miss her! Doreen is now at peace! She is survived by two step-children: Robbe Newman and Linda Vericker.
