Doreen Irma Hannon was born on October 15, 1928 in Edmonton, Alberta to Irma and George Fraser. The family eventually moved to southern California.
It was in Los Angeles that Doreen met and married Jerry Hannon. They were blessed with one child, a daughter Jeri.
Doreen worked for Aloha Elementary School in Lakewood for almost 30 years. She was a teacher's aide and her passion was teaching children to read.
She also volunteered many years to Holy Family Catholic Church. She taught catechism, RCIA and was a member of The Legion of Mary. She was very strong in her faith and in her service to the Lord.
Doreen became a grandmother at the age of 70 and retired from her job to care for her granddaughter, Cameron. Two years later, another granddaughter, Erin, was born. Doreen was a wonderful and devoted grandma. She was an active part of her grandchildren's lives, even volunteering time at their elementary school.
A s her grandchildren grew, Doreen began volunteering her time at The Long Beach Senior Center. She spent countless hours assisting other seniors and making some wonderful friends.
Doreen was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry, sister Marion Haney and brother Roger Privett. She is survived by her daughter, Jeri, grandchildren, Cameron and Erin, sisters Patricia Hinojosa, Geraldine Marshall, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Doreen will be greatly missed by all those whose lives she touched. She will forever live in our hearts.
