Donald Alan Carr of Long Beach, California, beloved husband, brother, grandfather and great grandfather, passed away peacefully in the Veterans Administration Community Living Center surrounded by his loving children on February 11, 2016. He was 82 years old.

Don was born on January 1st 1934 to Evelyn and Robley Carr in Concord, New Hampshire. He graduated from Concord High school and attended the University of New Hampshire where he studied English and History. These studies led to a lifelong pursuit of history, religion and life’s meaning.

Don enlisted in the air force during the Korean War and completed his basic training at Bowling Green University, Ohio. From there he was transferred to Sealand R.A.F. base in Chester, England where he met and married Mildred – the love of his life for 62 years. During his tour of duty, Don and Mildred lived in many countries before being assigned to the Strategic Air Command in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. There he graduated, first in his class, from the Non Commissioned Officer Academy becoming an instructor in English and Administration. He served in the Air Force for ten years.

Upon entering civilian life Don was a senior account executive for a major corporation and later a real estate agent with Robert Weil Associates.

Don delighted in his family; picnics at the beach; enjoying a round of golf; spending quiet time reading and drawing with pen and ink; noisy time swinging a hammer and remodeling the family home. He was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church where he served as a Lay Eucharist Minister, Lay Reader, Vestry member and Senior Warden. He was deeply spiritual and a devoted Episcopalian.

Don was blessed with two children, his son Michael (Mary) and daughter Susan (Harry). Four beautiful grandchildren Jennifer (Roger), Wendy (Paul), Tim (Cyndi), Catie (K.J.) and four wonderful great-grandchildren Jacob, Ellie, Joseph and Jonathan. Brother Bob (Thelma) and Sister Joyce.

We would like to thank the doctors, nurses, caregivers, and social worker at the V.A. Hospital for the most loving, kind, professional and respectful care given to Don during his stay.

Funeral services will be held at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 7th and Atlantic on Friday, February 19th at 1:00 pm
