Donald (Don) Francis Baumann, age 94, passed away peacefully on June 15th, 2025 in Seal Beach, California, where he had been residing for the last four years. He is survived by his two sons, Michael (and Betty) and Timothy (and LeAnne), as well as his three grandchildren Francesca, Glenn, and Kevin and 6 great grandchildren.
Don was born on March 10th ,1931 to Herman and Olga Baumann. He grew up in South San Gabriel with his three brothers Herman, Richard, and John. He graduated from Cathedral High School in 1950 and after taking classes at Pasadena City College, he enlisted in the US Air Force. He served as Staff Sergeant for four years active duty in Washington D.C. where he met and then married Geraldine (Gerry) Kalb at St. Matthew’s Cathedral in D.C. on September 10th, 1955.
After he got married, Don moved to Southern California (Ventura and then Temple City) where he and Gerry raised their two sons, Michael and Timothy. He started his career as a right of way agent with Southern California Edison in 1956. In the 1980s, he worked on projects in and around Big Creek in the High Sierras, giving him ample opportunity to enjoy camping, hiking, and fishing in the mountains. After 35 years of service at Edison, Don retired and was able to spend more time enjoying his hobbies which also included biking, Bonsai, gardening, and woodworking.
Don was very active in his local parish, Holy Angels, in Arcadia, selflessly devoting his time serving as a cantor, reader, and eucharistic minister. He also volunteered at the annual church carnival and was an avid supporter of religious vocations.
In his last few years, Don enjoyed taking rides to enjoy the Southern California beach scenery, going out to eat, and spending time with hie children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren at every opportunity. He was always in awe at how much Southern California had grown during his lifetime. He lived a great long life and will be sorely missed.
