Domenic Cretara was born March 29, 1946 in Chelsea, Massachusetts, son to Anthony and Carmela Cretara. He grew up in East Boston and attended Boston University where he received his Bachelor and Masters degrees in Fine Art.
His art work is included in many collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, Minneapolis Institute of Art, Triton Art Museum, and Boston Public Library Collection.
He has won many awards including a Fulbright-Hays Grant to Florence, Italy, a Camargo Foundation Grant to Cassis, France, and a Sister Cities Grant to Padua, Italy.
Domenic taught at The Art Institute of Boston, and then at California State University at Long Beach.
His work is included in may publications, and he has authored several articles. Domenic has recently published a book “A Painter’s Journey: sketches, studies and drawings of the art and life of Florence.”
He is survived by his wife Elizabeth, daughter Jeanette Huff, son Anthony Cretara, and four grandsons, Richard, Anthony, John, and Alexander Huff.
