February 8, 1938 — January 11, 2015

Dolores Smothers Profile Photo
Dolores Smothers, was born in 1938 to Joseph and Josephine Lema in --- Bend, Oregon. She grew up in the small town of Red Bluff, CA with her siblings Clyde, Marie, Pam, Jo Anne and Joey. She met her husband Ron Smothers in Redding and they were married for 52 years.

She had a very successful career as a server at the iconic Del Rae restaurant in Pico Rivera for 20 years. Dolores did not know a stranger - she was always ready with a warm greeting and joke to make everyone feel welcome. She loved taking care of her extended family and hosted annual holiday celebrations throughout the years where everyone enjoyed her delicious cooking, hospitality and of course, the all important, late into the night and very serious game of

Pinochle.

Dolores and Ron made their home in Long Beach and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2012. Family and faith were very important to Dolores. A lifelong Roman Catholic, she was an active member at St. Cornelius church. She kept in touch with her sisters on a daily basis - celebrating her extended family member's joys and offering a sympathetic ear during life's hardships. Her laughter was unmistakeable and never failed to light up the room. She had

an indefatigable spirit, infectious smile and warm heart. She will be sorely missed.

She is survived by her husband, Ronald Smothers; her older brother Clyde Lema; her sisters, Marie Parker, Pam Hall and Jo Anne Nevis.

Arrangements under the direction of Luyben-Dilday Mortuary, Long Beach, CA.
