Debra Ruth Vega, lovingly known as Debbie, was born on March 21, 1963, in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, to Daniel Walden and Donna Corbin Walden. She spent her later years in Lakewood, California, where she created a life full of love, laughter, and service.
Debbie had a deep love for the simple joys in life: fishing, relaxing by the beach, and above all, cheering for her Pittsburgh Steelers. A true daughter of Aliquippa, she bled black and gold. Football wasn’t just a sport to her, it was part of her soul, a passion passed down through generations in a town that helped shape some of the game’s greatest legends.
Her heart, however, was even bigger than her love for football. For more than 20 years, Debbie dedicated her time and energy to the Susan G. Komen Foundation in Orange County, contributing to the fight against breast cancer. Her life was a testament to compassion, always putting others before herself.
Debbie is survived by her three children: Chance and Debra Vega of Buena Park, Adam Vega of Lakewood, and Taylor Murphey of Huntington Beach. She was a proud and loving grandmother to her four grandsons—Dean, Calvin, Ryan, and Nathaniel Vega—who were the absolute lights of her life. She also leaves behind her mother and stepfather, Donna and Roger Thompson of Baja, California, and her sisters: Denise (Michael) Crisp of Blanco, Texas; Dana (Kevin) Hohn of Lakehills, Texas; and Donna (Francis) McCormick of Sewickley, Pennsylvania.
A Celebration of Life will be held in her honor on Saturday, August 2nd at 11:00 AM at Knott Avenue Christian Church in Anaheim, California.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in Debbie’s name (Team #655407) to City of Hope’s Walk for Hope, a cause she deeply believed in. https://ourhope.cityofhope.org/give/t655407/#!/donation/checkout
