David “Gunny” Angel, USMC Ret May 22, 1943- April 10, 2022 David Angel was born in Decatur, Illinois on May 22, 1943, and raised in Long Beach, California where he passed away peacefully at home on April 10, 2022. David enlisted in the United States Marine Corp in his early twenties and traveled the U.S and abroad with his assignments. Serving three tours in Vietnam, he was awarded the purple heart and silver star (in lieu of the second purple heart). It was during this time that he met the love of his life Yoshiko while stationed in Okinawa, Japan, and they married in 1969. David retired from the military in 1984 and continued his career as an auto mechanic until his second retirement in 2010. One of the hardest days of David’s life was when he lost Yoshiko in 1994. As fate would have it, David was blessed in finding love once again in 1997, Linda. As fate would also have it, David faced his second hardest day when he lost Linda in 2010. David had a way with people that was subtle and innocuous, a true heart of gold. His love to help others in need shone through every single day. You could not help but smile at him when you met him, and you would never forget his kindness and compassion. David loved his country and would defend her to the end, a true Marine, but he loved his family above all. David is survived by his daughter’s Tambra Sincerbox (Kevin Sincerbox) and Cynthia Tanguay (Ronald Tanguay), his son Charles Thompson, his grandchildren Tyler Fendel (Cassidy Fendel), Charles Thompson II, Johnathan Thompson, Cameron Tanguay, Brett Tanguay, and his great-grandchildren Blaze Fendel and Beck Fendel.
