IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Darlene Janet
Meyers
January 12, 1930 – December 28, 2025
Our beloved mother, Darlene Meyers, departed this life on December 28, 2025, in her home in Seal Beach. She was devoted to her family, a loyal friend, and a respected member of the community.
Born on January 12, 1930, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Darlene grew up surrounded by love and support. She was the daughter of Roy Engel and Aimee Nelson and the sibling of Roy Jr, Gary and Donald who have all predeceased her.
Throughout her life, Darlene touched the hearts of everyone she met. Darlene was only in 10th grade when at her cousin’s Valentine party she met Robert “Jim” Meyers. They began to date and not long after her high school graduation they married on September 18, 1948. Greg was born in 1949, Mike in 1951 and Carrie in 1953. Carrie struggled with that first winter and so in July of 1953 the family packed into a car and drove to California (Long Beach) to start a new life. Jim worked as a sheet-metal mechanic and Darlene cared for the family, which increased by one in 1955 with the arrival of David to complete the family. Soon after, Darlene’s parents also moved to Long Beach, followed by her brothers Roy and Gary and Jim’s brother Francis.
Family was the most important thing and there were weekly gatherings for the adults to play cards late into the evening and big family gatherings for every holiday and event. The children grew and married and grandchildren became the center of attention. In 1992 after Jim’s retirement, Jim and Darlene followed her brother Roy and moved to a golf community just beyond Victorville called Silver Lakes, where golf became the passion for both of them. After 18 years at the golf course and with Jim’s failing health they moved back near Long Beach to Leisure World, Seal Beach. After Jim’s passing in 2018, Darlene remained in her Seal Beach home.
Darlene’s memory will live on in the hearts of her loved ones, including children: Greg & Candy Meyers, Rev. Monsignor Mike Meyers, John, d. & Carrie Kistner, David, d. & Nancy Meyers; grandchildren: Brent, Steve, Julie and Gina Meyers, Kim, Chris, Angela and Nick Kistner; and Alexandra Meyers; great grandchildren: Kaylynn and Avery Meyers, Devan and Saira Biasi, Max and Ben Meyers: Noah Kistner, Jessie and Jake Funke; Evan Kistner; and Abi Polomsky and many dear friends. She will be remembered for her many years of bowling in a league at Cal Bowl in Lakewood and her collection of swans.
A funeral Mass will be held on Monday, January 12 (her birthday) at 10 am at St. Cornelius Church, 5500 E Wardlow Rd., Long Beach. Family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by Darlene are invited to attend and share in remembering a truly remarkable person.
Though Darlene is no longer with us, her spirit and legacy will endure. We celebrate the life she lived, the love she gave, and the memories we will cherish forever.
