Daniel Paul Burke

Daniel Paul Burke was born October 4, 1927 in Long Beach, California. He passed away in Los Alamitos, California, on August 17, 2019.

He led a full and blessed life. While growing up, he stayed local attending St. Matthew’s and St. Anthony’s Catholic Schools. He then attended College of Emporia in Kansas – leaving early after the death of his Father. He coached basketball at Mater Dei and St. John Bosco High Schools. Even in his mid-80s, Paul was coaching 8th grade basketball at St. Bonaventure Elementary School.

After serving in the Navy, he was introduced to Matilda Martinovich. They hit it off and were married on August 23, 1952. He thoroughly enjoyed working for Alpha Beta as a truck driver for 30 years and being an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Long Beach, California.

He relished taking his children to the beach, was an avid golfer, loved watching the Boston Celtics and most importantly Notre Dame Football.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Matilda; parents, John and Geneva; two brothers, Jerry and Jack; two sisters, Rosemary and Jean; two sons, Thomas Patrick (Debbie Burke) and Paul Joseph (Laura Burke). He is survived by his five children, Timothy, Kathleen, John, Daniel, and Mark, his 16 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.

He was a devoted husband, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will be fondly remembered and forever missed.

The visitation will begin Thursday, August 22, 2019 at 5:00 PM with a rosary to follow at 6:00 PM at Luyben Dilday Mortuary. The funeral mass will be Friday, August 23, 2019 at 10:00 AM at St. Cornelius Catholic Church. Interment will follow at All Souls Catholic Cemetery.
