DANA ROBERT BROWN was born in Long Beach, California to parents Riley and Noreen Brown on December 2, 1957. He entered eternity, much too soon, when his heart gave out on Thursday, the 13th of June, 2019.
He attended school in Long Beach, graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School and California State University Long Beach.
Dana was active in the Boy Scouts of America his whole life, earning the Eagle Scout Award as a teenage and was very active in the Tribe of Tahquitz, making his own fancy dance costume which included elaborate bead work on his moccasins, coup stick and belt. He served as District Commissioner of the Los Fierros District, where he received his Wood Badge, the most advanced training course offered by the Boy Scouts of America. In addition, he was honored with the District Award of Merit in 2016.
He especially enjoyed the Pinewood Derby Event, organizing workshops to help the Scouts build their Derby Cars, as well as participating in the trials and judging of the events. He was very proud of his car winning an adult competition in six-tenths of a second.
During the 1970’s, Dana was active in rock climbing, having a pitch named for him on El Capitan in Yosemite. This fascination led to Geology, his life’s work.
Dana enjoyed camping, climbing, fishing, baking, traveling and model making.
On a business trip to Mongolia he met his wife, Chimge. They have a son, Zolo, who is in the United States Air Force, and a daughter, Jana, who is a student at Long Beach Woodrow Wilson High School.
Dana was always a supportive parent. At Wilson he served as President of the Cheer Booster Club. The week of his passing he was involved as Chairman of Registration for the Grad Night event.
A Cheer Boosters condolence described him perfectly: “Dana was such a wonderful man, there truly aren’t many like him. His positive attitude, endless giving and love for you was always apparent and infectious.”
He is survived by his Mother, Noreen, wife Chimge, son Zolo, daughter Jana, sister Terralee Pettinger, nieces Lauren Levine and Amy and April Parkinson, and nephew Clinton Parkinson.
Family, both here and in Mongolia, as well as coworkers and friends, will miss him.
