Consuelo Ofelia Kerenyi Vásquez Escobar passed peacefully on July 18, 2019 at the age of 85, with her family by her side. Connie was born on September 5, 1933 in Fredonia, Colombia, the daughter of a railroad engineer and a homemaker. She was one of eight children. As a young adult she moved from Fredonia to Medellín and studied commercial science at Colmayor University, graduating in a class of 14 in 1955.
In 1965 she emigrated to the U.S., living in New York and working as a seamstress. In 1967 she moved to Los Angeles, where she met and married her husband, Alex Kerenyi, in 1970. She and Alex loved to travel the world and host parties at their home in Los Angeles. Upon Alex’s passing in 2004 she moved to Lakewood and enjoyed years of life with family and close friends. In her later years she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, but was always happy to see her close acquaintances, share stories, and enjoy a good meal and a glass of wine.
She was diagnosed with cancer in June 2019 and passed less than a month later. She is survived by her brother Emilio, her son John, her daughter Susan, and three grandchildren: Joshua, Justin, and Cruze.
