Clifton Yasuzo Moromisato, son of Kame and Kamato Moromisato – much-loved husband, father, and grandfather - passed away peacefully on December 1, 2019 at age 85.
Clif graduated from Kaimuki High School in 1952. He attended Loyola School of Dentistry in Chicago for his DDS and subsequent subspecialty training in orthodontia. During this time he also served four years in the Air Force. He then went on to have a thriving orthodontics practice for 28 years in Huntington Beach.
Clif married high school classmate, Lorraine Miyashiro, and during their 33 happy years, raised four sons and two daughters before Lorraine passed away in 1990. He then met Gladys Tsuji - widowed with two daughters – who helped him rediscover happiness in marriage and partnership for the most recent 25 years.
He was a devout Catholic and volunteered and supported Our Lady of Refuge Parish in Long Beach. He adored all types of foods – Hawaiian style to elaborate gourmet – but his real joy was sharing any meal surrounded by friends and family. He loved to travel with Lorraine, the six kids and as many of their cousins as he could fit in a van or RV to explore the National Parks throughout California, the western states and Canada. And later in retirement he and Gladys traveled the world together – seeing the Great Wall of China, touring Europe and cruising through the Panama Canal. And throughout it all, he could never pass up a hot roll of dice at the craps table in downtown Las Vegas.
He is survived by wife Gladys, brother Yasuichi, sisters Theresa and Dora, six children David (Laura), Donna (Gary), Paul (Kristine), Mark, Eric, and Diane (Matt), and 2 grandchildren (Owen, Lily). A memorial service will be held at Our Lady of Refuge Church in Long Beach on Saturday January 11 at 11am. The service will be followed by continuing the celebration of Clif’s life with food and “talk story”. Hawaiian attire for the occasion was his desire and he insisted on no flowers or koden please.
