Clara Weigel Sehi Profile Photo

Clara Mary Sehi Weigel was born on September 20, 1920 to Albert V. and Clara Weigel in Los Angeles, California. She was the youngest of three children, having older brothers, Al and William, now deceased. Clara grew up in Los Angeles, graduated from Saint Mary’s Academy in 1938, and served in the Navy as a WAVE during World War II. She was assigned to an office in Washington DC where she worked as a Code Breaker and fell in love with her boss, George Raymond Sehi, whom she married in 1944. Their first son, Jerry was born in Washington, followed by five more children after their return to Los Angeles after the War. Clara was an industrious and organized Mother who diligently provided her six children with everything they needed to grow into good-natured, independent, successful adults who love each other and their family. Her sense of humor contributed to many fun adventures, lively holiday gatherings of friends and family, and kept the family united and happy.

The death of Ray and Clara’s second son, Steve, in combat in Vietnam in 1968 opened a wound in her heart that was only partially healed by time and the closeness and unity of her family. As her children set out on their own, she busied herself with art, sewing and beautiful quilting projects. Over the next several years, Clara and Ray had many successful real estate transactions together and met new friends, travelling to Hawaii and around the US and Canada in their Motor Home. Later, Clara lovingly cared for her husband, which allowed him to stay at home until he passed away in 2007. A stroke in 2010 set her back physically, but her indomitable spirit and tenacious desire to recover, gave her a measure of health and independence that surprised her family and care givers until she passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 9, 2017.

Clara will be missed by all who knew her, especially her children: Jerry (Barbara), Terry (Alex Shelton), Dotty (Keith Potter), Patty and Mariellen (Steve Stern). She also leaves behind 8 Grandchildren: Vanessa (Trent Morgan), Katie (Keoni Noblado), Stephanie Potter (Mario Niciarz, Fiancé), Laurel (Michael Colbert), Peter Schwartzkopf (Michelle), John, Stephen and Jordan as well as many nieces and nephews. Thankfully, the two youngest members of the family, Ellery Colbert and Riley Morgan, were born in time to be held and loved by their great Grandmother, Clara.
