Christina Hodowski

Christina Hodowski, age 96, passed away peacefully with her family at her side August 1, 2020 after a long and active life. She was born July 25, 1924, in Bronx, New York, the youngest and only daughter to Czech immigrants Stephan and Suzanne (Mizerak) Hargas. In June of 1949, she embarked on a new journey moving to California and married her love, Bernard R. Hodowski, who preceded her in death in 1992. Christina and Bernard enjoyed dancing, travelling together as well as spending time with family and friends.

Christina personified grace, intelligence, integrity and hard work. She loved being a wife and devoted mother of three children. She was untiring in her support of each of her children’s school activities, interests, careers and personal lives. She was not only beautiful and smart; but stylish, creative and artistic. She truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures; gardening, playing cards with friends and family and donating her time to St. Joseph’s Church.

Christina’s Catholic Faith was a critical component in her life. Humble, but confident, Christina’s strong Faith in God was the key to having Faith in herself and in others. Even though struggling with memory issues she always remembered word for word, saying her daily prayers religiously.

Christina is survived by her son and two daughters; Craig (Kathleen) Hodowski, Susan (James) Johnson, and Patricia Hodowski. Beloved Grandmother to Nathan, Jessica, Jennifer, Sean and Heather, and Great-Grandmother of Matthew, Morgan, Aedan, Adlynn and Caleb. She will be greatly missed. Funeral and burial service will be held on Friday, August 7, 2020 at 9 am at All Souls Cemetery located at 4400 Cherry Avenue, Long Beach, to reminisce, grieve and support each other.
