Calinica Semense was born in the Philippines in January 1932. She attended the University of San Carlos and graduated from medical school at the University of Santo Tomas in 1959. She worked at Philippine General Hospital until 1967 when she moved her family to the U.S. She continued working as a General Practitioner and joined the U.S. Army Reserve serving for almost 20 years. She retired from working for the County but continued to participate in medical missions until 2019.
Being the matriarch of the family, she was affectionately referred to by many names: Mom, Ma, Mama, Mamaya, Lola, Nanay, Doctora and MamaDoc, just to name a few. She was loved by many and was always the happiest when surrounded by family, especially her twelve grandchildren and two great granddaughters. She is survived by seven children and will rejoin her husband, daughter and granddaughter in heaven.
