Daughter, Sister, Aunt, Wife, Mother & Grandmother October 1, 1924 - July 28, 2015 Betty was born in Iowa on October 1, 1924. She was raised on a farm with her 8 Brothers & Sisters. Betty met Fred Smith II, fell in love, got married and soon had two boys, Fred III and Sid. Fred's employer transferred the family to start a new life in California. Soon after, Betty's third child, MaryAnn, was born. Betty was a loving and involved Grandma for both her grandchildren, Tricia and Taylor. Betty enjoyed attending her grandkids school performances and activities. She lived in the the same household as MaryAnn and Taylor for a period of time, and that allowed her cherish more time with her family. Betty never drove a car. She liked to walk, a lot! Since Betty walked everywhere, she had a special place in her heart for shoes. Oh how she loved shoes! In her youth, just as she started working and earning her owning money to buy fabulous new shoes, they were rationed due to the war. There started her shoe envy. She would always know if you had on a new pair of shoes, even if it had been awhile since you saw her. Betty loved the color Red. She also adored Song Birds, but her favorite bird was a Cardinal. Betty also enjoyed Christmas music, as early as she could get away with listening to it. She favored old standards such as, Benny Goodman and Glen Miller. Betty loved to listen to music. but she also enjoyed classic movies. Meet Me In St. Louis, The Harvey Girls, The Wizard of Oz, Easter Parade, Gone With The Wind, and Singing In The Rain were some of her favorites. Betty loved the theater and Broadway musicals. Betty also had quite an extensive collection of Barbies, well over 100. How she loved Barbie! Betty was a skilled and talented seamstress, who also enjoyed needle point, until arthritis forced her to stop. She was a gifted baker and enjoyed cooking home made meals for her family. For years, she worked at Bullocks in fine jewelry. She did love a good sparkle! Betty was a wonderful and kind woman to everyone that crossed her path, beautiful both inside and out. She was loved and adored by many. She will be deeply missed.
