Betty Longo was born in 1932. She grew up with her parents, Al and Maria Mondragon and her younger brother, Cesar in East Los Angeles. Growing up she loved sports, especially baseball and was an accomplished pianist. Betty was fond of all styles of music. She attended Sacred Heart, an all-girls Catholic high school and remained friends with many of her high school classmates over the years. She married a handsome, Italian man from New York, named Joseph Longo in September of 1956 and was happily married for 40 years until Joe’s passing in 1997.
After their marriage, Joe and Betty bought a house in Lakewood and started their family. They had Stephen Anthony and Michael Joseph. They were devoted parents and Betty spent her days making their home environment a welcome place for Joe, the boys and their friends. Many loved ones have cherished memories of gatherings at Betty and Joe’s house full of food and laughter. One always felt welcome at the Longo household and Betty’s warmth and love could always be felt.
As the boys grew older Betty become heavily involved at her parish, St. Pancratius. In addition to attending Mass, she and Joe partnered in organizing the Stateline Turn-a-Round Trips for the Knights of Columbus. Betty was also a volunteer for bingo night at the parish and for the booths at the annual festival.
She is survived by her two sons, their wives, her six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was loved dearly by her family and friends and she will be greatly missed.
