BARBARA SUE WYTHE FARRELL

December 18th 1930 - January 8th, 2018

Barbara Sue Farrell of Long Beach, Ca passed away peacefully on January 8th, 2018.  Barbara was a loving, caring, and encouraging wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.

Barbara "Bobbie" as she was known by both family and friends was born in Cook County , Illinois to Wayne Wythe and Lillian (Whittey) Wythe on December 18th, 1930.  Barbara's father was a shoe salesman who traveled the mid-west and western states opening shoe stores.  Barbara's mother worked at Walkers Dept. Store in the Women's Department.  By the time Barbara was in the 6th grade she had attended six elementary schools.  "I made new friends wherever I went".  In 1949 the family moved to Long Beach, where Barbara completed her HS education.  Later, she went on to Long Beach City College for two years, and was a member of Entre Nous Sorority.  In 1951, Barbara married Joseph H. Farrell and they settled in their newly built home in Los Altos where they raised seven children.  The family attended St. Joseph's Catholic Church.  Bobbie and Joe were very musically talented and they helped produce, direct, and star in The Gay 90's Variety Show and fundraising Gala for their local parish for many years.  Always active, Barbara took on a second career, working for Ralph's Grocery Store in the food service dept. for 15 plus years. There she was known for her keen business sense, intelligence, and sense of humor with co-workers and clients alike.  In retirement, Bobbie loved reading, decorating her home, playing cards, travel with family and friends and attending Holiday and Celebration times.  Bobbie also attended and volunteered at St. Matthews Parish as a Eucharistic Minister and clerical worker.  She was an active participant and supporter of Special Olympics at C.S.U.L.B. with her youngest son, Joseph "Joey" Farrell.  Barbara was truly a steward of love and will be deeply missed.

Barbara was preceded in death by her father, Wayne Wythe, mother, Lillian Wythe, daughter Kathleen Farrell and son Michael Farrell.  She is survived by her brother Michael Wythe, sons; Patrick, Mark, Joey, daughters; Debra Hinze and Mary Cronin.  Grandchildren; Kambria Anton, Nicole Samuelson, Jenna Rodabaugh, Kristen Farrell, Kelli Farrell, Michael Farrell, Marley Farrell, Melanie Farrell and Mikayla Farrell.  Great Grandchildren; Kain Blankenship, and Christine Rodabaugh.

Contributions may be made in Barbara's name to Special Olympics and/or St. Matthews Parish.

Memorial Mass is Friday, January 26th at 11 am at St. Matthew's parish.
