Arthur C. Meigs Jr. passed away on May 14, 2024 in Los Alamitos, CA.  Born in Long Beach, CA on June 14, 1931 to Dr. Arthur C. Meigs and Vivian E. Meigs, he graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1950.  Soon afterwards, he joined the US Coast Guard and served aboard the USCGC Finch in Midway, Guam, and Japan.

On returning from service during the Korean War, he studied electronic engineering at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo and returned to work at the Long Beach Naval Shipyard as an industrial engineer supporting the machinery and shop layouts for repair on a variety of naval vessels.

After thirty years as an industrial engineer, he worked part-time for another thirty years as Secretary/Recorder for a variety of Long Beach Masonic organizations, bringing their membership catalogs and mailing lists into the information age.

He enjoyed building computers and electronics, amateur radio (KB6ERG - 73's SK), hobby and full scale railroads, masonic fraternity, historical documentaries and travel.

Arthur was active in many forms of Masonic contribution for over 75 years including his work as Past Commander (1976) Long Beach Commandery No. 40, Past High Priest (1967) Long Beach Chapter No. 84, Illustrious Past Master (1986) Long Beach Council No. 26, 33rd degree Long Beach Scottish Rite, and Past Master Councilor/Chevalier (1954), Order of DeMolay. He earned numerous service awards for contributions to masonic groups and charities.

He could always be counted on to join lunch and dinner meet-ups with friends in the Royal Order of Scotland, Robert the Bruce Association, Signal Hill High Twelve Club, Radio Operators Shrine Club, National Model Railroading Association, Los Angeles Live Steamers, American Radio Relay League, Radio Association of Long Beach and Long Beach Repeaters Association.

For many years, he enjoyed helping lead Summer camps in the San Bernardino mountains for Long Beach area Boy Scouts.

Arthur was preceded in death by his loving wife June in November of 2017.  He is survived by his daughter Jeanette, who dedicated herself to his care, his son Tom, daughter-in-law Melinda, and grandchildren Cassidy and Wyatt.

His charm and passion for impromtu historical storytelling and kind heart will be sorely missed.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the Shriner’s Children’s Fund or Masonic Homes of California, both of which he served and were important to him.
