Arthur Franklyn Glasier, Jr. of Seal Beach, California died January 19th following a courageous battle against cancer. Art was born in Newton, Massachusetts to Arthur and Veta Glasier. After a brief childhood there he enjoyed the sunny environs of Southern California for over 90 years.

Art was a proud American patriot from the ?Greatest Generation' of our time. A graduate of the Civil Pilot Training Program at Long Beach City College prior to WWII, he served as a Flight Officer and Instructor Pilot in the Royal Canadian Air Corps before the United States entered the war. He subsequently transferred to the US Army Air Corps to serve as a B-25 instructor pilot and eventual B-17 bomber pilot with the 305th Bombardment Group (Heavy) during the Allied Forces' strategic bombing campaign over Europe and North Africa. His crew members called him ?The General' owing to his esteemed professionalism and devotion to the welfare of his crew. Following the war as a decorated veteran, Art enjoyed a successful 33-year career as a Los Angeles County Deputy Marshal rising to the rank of Lieutenant.

For nearly 30 years during the ?50s-70's, Art and his wife Lucille were active members of the Los Alamitos Bay Yacht Club in Long Beach where they enjoyed the thrill of competitive sailing and cherished the many enduring friendships made over those years. Art and Lucille were often touted as ?the team to beat'?winning several championship sailing regattas together. Their boat named "True Love" was emblematic of their everlasting devotion to each other. They were married for 63 years until Lucille's death in 2003.

Art and Lucille spent 20 years of retirement in Bear Valley Springs, near Tehachapi, California playing golf nearly every day--weather permitting. They forged many lasting friendships there?their home being the fun-loving 19th hole adjacent to the final green of the golf course.

Following Lucille's passing, Art moved to Leisure World at Seal Beach. He played golf almost daily into his early 90's and also was a regular accomplished Bridge player there. He was a proud member of the American Legion Leisure World Post 327. His dear friend Evelyn Smith at Leisure World helped made his final years there both joyful and fulfilling.

Art was preceded in death by his loving wife Lucille Irene (Nay) Glasier and sister Barbara (Glasier) Davis. He is survived by his daughter Joan Lucille Wolf and husband Jim of Long Beach; son, John Arthur Glasier of Lake Martin, Alabama; granddaughters, Allison Irene Wolf and husband Nick Moldovan of Dublin, VA, and Jennifer Glasier Blab and husband Andy of Kennett Square, PA; and his great-grandchildren, Alexandra Lucille Blab and Gavin Anton Blab.

A celebration of life memorial for Art is being planned with details to be announced at a later date. Luyben Dilday Mortuary of Long Beach handled the cremation arrangements.

Arrangements under the direction of Luyben-Dilday Mortuary, Long Beach, CA.
