Archibald (Archie) McFadyen, of Glasgow, Scotland, passed away peacefully in his home on November 20, 2025, surrounded by the love and comfort of his wife, Mary, son, Paul, many nieces and nephews, and those who were not direct family members, but knew him as a husband, father, uncle, neighbor, or friend.

Archie was born in Glasgow on December 19, 1937, and spent the first 31 years of his life in Glasgow, where he met the love of his life, Mary. Archie and Mary, and their two young sons moved ‘across the pond’ to Long Beach, California in 1969, before settling in a home in Lakewood, California in 1979. Mary and Archie shared 65 years of marriage, enjoying many memories, laughs, and sing-songs with ex-pats from overseas, traveling to Australia and back ‘home’ to visit family and loved ones, and sharing their Catholic faith, first at St. Mungos (Glasgow), through marriage at St. Rochs (Glasgow), and then at St. Cornelius (Long Beach).

Archie is survived by his loving wife Mary, and son, Paul. He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Rose Ann, his sisters, May and Elizabeth, and brother, John. In mid-2023, Archie also suffered through the lengthy illness, and eventual passing of his oldest son, John.

At 18, Archie served in the British Army and after fulfilling his duties with the Royal Artillery, he began working for the Royal Mail in Glasgow, initially as a mail driver, before transitioning to becoming a telephone repairman. Upon moving to California, Archie continued his work as a telephone repairman, working for the General Telephone Company for 26 years.

In his later years, Archie enjoyed many a round of golf, often getting up with the sun to get on the course two to three times a week. Archie also enjoyed spending time with family, near and far, sharing stories of his youth, memories from his life, and sometimes using these stories to set up the enraptured listener with the punchline to a joke.

While Archie spent 56 years of his life in Long Beach and Lakewood, his heart always belonged to Glasgow. Before the internet, he would receive the Glasgow newspapers from family in Scotland. Later in life, he learned to navigate the internet to explore every piece of news from the home country, but the most important news Archie wanted to keep up on was the news about ‘his team’, the Glasgow Celtic. On a daily basis, Archie would visit many a Celtic website, showing pleasure and frustration with the Hoops, but what he looked forward to the most, was watching his team play, thanks to Celtic TV.

Archie’s family and friends invite you to join in saying our last goodbyes at his memorial services on Saturday, December 20, at 10:00 am at St. Cornelius Catholic Church, with a reception to follow immediately in the church hall.
