Antonio Talamantes, age 90, passed away on December 7, 2020, surrounded by his family. He was born on September 8, 1930 in Guadalajara, Mexico to Rosario and Maria Talamantes. He was predeceased by his wife of many years, Darlene. He is survived by his children, Pam (Lee), Marvin (Sunni), Aaron, and Christie (Jeff); Grandchildren, Donald, Monica, Heather, Aubrey, Austin, Todd (deceased), Anthony, Jason, Crystal, Jeffrey, Justin, and Carissa; great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends, and many other family members, including his sister, Rosario.

Antonio was brought up in Mexico by his sweet, widowed mother. He had a colorful childhood where survival and sometimes getting enough food to eat was a struggle. As soon as he was able, he began on his quest to work and live in the U.S. After several trips back and forth across the border and learning to speak English, he met his future bride at night school in Long Beach, California. He was Darlene’s “tall, dark and handsome” dream come true and their lives together began.

Everyone who knew Tony and Darlene as a couple, knew Darlene as the talkative, extroverted one while Tony was the quiet guy. Always there, just the calm, quiet half of the duo.

“Racquetball Tony” as he was known at his home away from home, the Lakewood YMCA, is where he spent much of his retirement. He had discovered racquetball in the late seventies at the outdoor courts at LBCC. He was a serious competitor who kept up a high level of play throughout his senior years and loved to show off to the younger, newer players.

Antonio’s most important achievement was his family. He loved them all with his whole heart and his kind, quiet support never wavered. He showed his love and support by attending his children and grandchildren’s practices and games. Always there, never criticizing, just proud to be there and to be a part of their daily lives. A truly proud dad and “Ito”.

We all loved Antonio so much and will miss him dearly. He is in Heaven now, together with his bride. We will feel his love and support here on earth and in Heaven when we join him in our eternal home.
