Annamaria (Mary Ann) Madrid-Vigil, age 67, passed away on May 13, 2023 after a brief illness. She transitioned peacefully with family members present. Annamaria was born in Inglewood, California. She was raised in Lawndale, and attended St. Catherine Laboure Elementary School and Bishop Montgomery High School. Annamaria was the youngest daughter of Fred and Ascension Madrid Vigil. She was a 1973 graduate of Bishop Montgomery High School in Torrance. Annamaria resided in Long Beach for the past 45 years.
Annamaria's first job was as a receptionist in the corporate office for TRW. After this she obtained her real estate salesperson license at the young age of 22. She started her early sales career with Century 21 Sparrow, and then with Century 21 A Marketplace. Annamaria was a very successful Realtor and went on to obtain her Real Estate Broker license, working as an Independent Broker for many years until her retirement. Annamaria also worked for 10 years as a licensed Insurance agent under the banner of State Farm, helping to build a highly successful independent State Farm Insurance Agency. During her retirement she continued to manage her own properties and pursue her lifelong passion for travel.
Annamaria delighted in being a world traveler. She traveled extensively in Europe, the South Pacific, especially New Zealand and Australia, Central and South America, Africa, and Hawaii. Most recently she was visiting our National Parks and continued to visit family in her beloved New Mexico. Big Sur was her favorite travel destination. Annamaria loved being in nature and found it peaceful and renewing. The highlight of her journeys was trekking mountain gorillas in Rwanda, and swimming with whale calves off the coast of Mexico. She loved researching her family's rich history. Annamaria's great, great, great grandfather was Donaciano Vigil, who was the territorial Governor of New Mexico from 1847 to 1848.
Annamaria loved to cook and entertain. Her magnetic personality energized and inspired others. She was sensitive and intuitive, with great compassion and loyalty for others. This created many long term friendships. Annamaria had a passion for physical fitness which culminated in her being a certified yoga instructor.
Annamaria is survived by her husband, Michael Flesock; her older sisters, Sister Genevieve-Marie of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Cluny; Genevieve Vigil (Bruce Adler) of Long Beach; and her younger brother Robert (Julie Arnold) of Whittier. She is also survived by her Aunt Aurelia of Santa Cruz, New Mexico; her Uncle Dennis Vigil of Plano, Texas, and many cousins in New Mexico, Texas, and Southern California.
A private celebration of Annamaria's life will be held in the near future.
