Frau Anna Schmelzer
It is with sorrow that we announce the passing of Frau Anna Schmelzer. Anna was born in Mandecevac, Yugoslavia in 1926. Her parents were Anna Tischmacher and Joseph Merli. She had a older brother, Michael Merli, and older sister Maria Merli. During the war the Merli family lost their vineyards and became refugees in Austria. It was there, in 1949, that Anna met and married her love, Hans Schmelzer. They immigrated to the U.S. in 1955 with their daughter Anneliese. Their son, Hans, was born in the U.S.
The Schmelzer Family was very active in the German Community and in particular, St. Stephen's Church. Anna's husband, Hans, was the founder of the Deutsch Amerikanishe Blaskapelle. He could always be found wherever German music was played. Their daughter, Anneliese, was an active member of our Dance Group for many years.
Anna leaves behind 2 children, Anneliese and Hans, five grandchildren, Eric, Christopher, Julianne, Samantha and Andrew and two great-grand children, Geraldyne and Elinor.
