Alden LeRoy Muns

May 5, 1926 – February 5, 2016

Alden was the son of Chris and Frances Muns of Hurley, South Dakota. Hurley was a small farming community in south eastern South Dakota where the Muns family – grandfather and two sons ran a grocery (general store). The store had an ice cream counter, candy, etc. Alden grew up during the depression years of the 1930’s. The store closed in 1940. In 1943 Alden and his parents came to Long Beach – them to work in defense industries – him to finish his education at Poly High. After graduation he served in the Navy and then later attended Long Beach City College and Long Beach State. While attending Long Beach State he worked night shift at Douglas Aircraft. He taught graphic arts at South Gate Jr. High. After retiring from teaching he worked for a number of years with Christian Outreach Appeal. In his later years he made many objects of wood for family and friends including screen doors, gates, tables, shelves, etc. Alden is survived by his wife Nina M. Muns (Jensen), 2 daughters, 3 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren. Alden and Nina traveled to many places together including South Pacific, Alaska, Canada, Hawaii, England, Scotland and many places within the US.
